My passion for connecting with children has provided me with many rewarding experiences, especially when working with neurodiverse students; seeing these young minds push away stereotypical conventions is inspiring. Through my son's experience being on the spectrum, I have learned that the only boundaries are those we set for ourselves.
I am excited to be able to share Soul's experiences and journey of discovery with young readers in the form of The Amazing Adventures of Soul children's storybook series.
Through these stories, I aim to help young readers explore their dreams and passions, inspiring them to believe anything is possible and that their amazing adventure is just around the corner.
An Interview with the Author
What made you write a story about a dog with autism?
Having a disability, visible or invisible, has not been included enough in books, and I wanted to show a positive perspective so the readers don’t just focus on the disability but on the fact only boundaries are those we set for ourselves. Soul believes he can achieve anything because of his disability, which is a powerful message.
You chose a realistic look for the illustrations; why?
Younger readers can relate to the characters more because they look like their own pets or animals they see on the farm.
Do you see yourself in Soul?
No! Soul is brave and adventurous, willing to try anything and go anywhere. I am very cautious, but I do like an adventure.
Will you write another series of The amazing adventures of Soul?
We are aiming for early next year, and we have some new characters that we are sure the young readers will love.
What is your goal for the Amazing Adventure of Soul series?
My goal is that these books will inspire young readers to have adventures, not just sit in front of a game console or TV. When you read or when someone reads to you, it opens your mind to the world of imagination, which is powerful.
